What is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy can be compared to physical therapy, but for your eyes. By following a regimented series of exercises, your vision therapist can help you improve certain aspects of your vision. Some conditions that can be improved with vision therapy include:

The type of exercises utilized will vary from patient to patient. Your vision therapist may use a variety of tools including prisms, lenses, balance boards, and software programs to help improve aspects of your vision.

Your vision therapist will track your progress and make adjustments to help yield the best possible results, but results are not guaranteed. Not everyone benefits from vision therapy.

Vision Therapy For Children

Children may develop different problems with their vision. Some of the most common issues children face are the possibility of amblyopia or strabismus. These eye conditions can have a lasting effect on your child’s ability to read, process information, and develop depth perception.

Vision therapy sessions are designed to help address these issues and hone their entire visual system to achieve the best possible vision.

Sports Vision Therapy

In some cases, the quality of your game may be directly correlated with the quality of your vision and visual processing. To help improve your vision and your sport, we have an in-office Senaptec Sensory Station.

Our Senaptec Sensory Station is a device programmed with a variety of different eye exercises that measures how well your eyes are able to respond to the information provided. This instrument is even able to detect problems with your vision, including those related to concussions.

According to researchers, over 50% of adults with a concussion or post-concussion syndrome experience one or more vision problems. Symptoms associated with concussions include:

  • Double vision
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye strain
  • Headaches
  • Light sensitivity
  • Motion sensitivity
  • Nausea
  • Difficulty tracking moving objects

At Hazleton + Stroudsburg, we offer a concussion rehabilitation program that implements vision therapy exercises to help mitigate these symptoms.
